SAVE THE DATE: JUNE 12-19, 2022
LOCATION: EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND
LOCATION: EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND
In 1968, the World Day of Prayer International Committee was formed and ever since the International Committee has met every four or five years. The World Day of Prayer International Committee is composed by the WDP National Committees elected delegates, who come together to share experiences and grow in understanding of one another. They also select themes and writers for WDP services, elect an ecumenical Executive Committee, define objectives and responsibilities for financing, and consider ways by which the movement may grow.
Each meeting brings special contributions to the growth of the movement. Together we envision the future of this global and local movement for justice and peace. The last International Meeting was held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, in 2017, and we left it knowing that we would meet again for the 14th time in 2022. At the top of this page, you see the logo for the meeting, which was a collaborative effort with the Presbyterian Women (PC-USA). The leaf of hope, which encircles WDP, springs out in a dancing movement towards a new heart and mind. With the uplifting message about the intention of the gathering, comes the announcement of the date and location of the International Meeting. |
Welcome to ScotlandWe are delighted that the invitation to host the 2022 International Meeting was accepted. Our hope is that your presence will strengthen communication and fellowship with the local groups, while we gain an understanding of the worldwide ecumenical movement. We believe that the meeting will encourage us to go out and share our vision of ‘informed prayer and prayerful action.’
We are looking forward to hosting our sisters from all parts of the world. The Conference Centre and accommodations are part of Edinburgh University, which is located on beautiful grounds sitting beside a park. There are wonderful walkways, perfect for an early morning stroll and, for the energetic, a world-renowned swimming pool. The campus is a short bus ride to the centre of Edinburgh, our capital with historic landmarks and traditional churches. The programme will include a few traditional Scottish things, like Scottish dancing and wonderful cakes and scones baked by our skilled ladies. We are privileged to host this meeting with the theme “New Heart, New Mind. Called to Hope”. Our hope and prayer is that, as we unite together, we will renew our commitment to serve our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. - WDP Scottish Committee

Venue & FeesWe are still living under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in our communities. Many committees started to introduce the 2021 WDP Vanuatu program via web conferencing, and others are keeping the connection with the local groups through mobile chats. We continue united in prayers and sharing the word of hope we find in this community of ‘Informed prayer. Prayerful action’.
The meeting will be held at the John McIntyre Conference Centre, in the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and accommodations are reserved on its campus. We want to call your attention to the currency we are using for the fees. The fees are in the British Pound sterling, which is the official currency of the United Kingdom. The fees cover dinner and accommodation from June 12th to breakfast on June 19th. However, take note that Saturday, June 18th, lunch is not included. It is considered a sightseeing day and you will be responsible for your own lunch. DELEGATE REGISTRATION: £ 50
DELEGATE ACCOMMODATION & MEALS SINGLE ROOM: £ 850 DOUBLE ROOM: £ 700 (per delegate) |
Fund for TomorrowBesides sponsoring their own delegates, the committees are invited to contribute to a special fund designated to increase participation at the International Meeting. The Fund provides opportunities for women from under represented countries and enables a greater number of young women to join the WDP community. Doing so, they can share their gifts and wisdom, engage in leadership roles within WDP.
Donations given to the Fund for Tomorrow honor woman and young woman, who have shared their light with others and have been placed on a lamp stand for the world to see. Tell the story of WDP by honoring a person who brought you light and bless the one who will carry it on. Donations can be sent directly to WDPIC or via your WDP National Committees. |
Committee Pre-RegistrationWe recognize that we are planning in the midst of uncertainty, and we will adjust as needed. Thus, we are creating a new step in the organizing process, which is the Committee Pre-registration. We are asking the National/Regional Committees to let us know about the plans regarding its participation at the 2022 International Meeting. It is not necessary to send the name of the delegates selected or the registration payment yet. Would you help us have a sense of the Committee’s plan regarding the 2022 International Meeting in Scotland?

Delegate Registration
The delegates are selected at the meeting of their National/Regional committee. They are elected to represent their committee. Each committee can designate only one voting delegate. When selecting the delegates, consider diversifying the representation by age, WDP role, Christian tradition, racial/ethnical background, or attendance to previous WDP meetings. Create the opportunity for first-timers!
Both categories of delegates are to be accountable to their own WDP Committee for their participation.
The committees are encouraged to make the effort to sponsor fully or partially the delegates. The cost of participation may include registration and accommodation fees, international ticket, visas and travel health insurance. Delegates can also share their personal resources with the committees.
Download the Delegate Selection Form and send by May 3rd, 2021.
Both categories of delegates are to be accountable to their own WDP Committee for their participation.
- The Voting Delegate acts on behalf of her WDP Committee for nominations and elections; and to vote on other issues that arise.
- The First Alternate Delegate assumes voting responsibility when, for any reason, a voting delegate is not present in a voting session.
- The committees that wish to send a Second Alternate and have not yet contributed to the travel fund are asked to do so. This contribution enables committees with less resource to be sponsored.
The committees are encouraged to make the effort to sponsor fully or partially the delegates. The cost of participation may include registration and accommodation fees, international ticket, visas and travel health insurance. Delegates can also share their personal resources with the committees.

Theme Reflection
“New Heart, New Mind, Called to Hope”
The theme for the 2022 International Meeting emerged from a reflection inspired by Chapters 1 & 4 of the letter to the Ephesians, which are the references for the 2023 and 2024 WDP program. It sets the tone for an action-oriented and future-forwarding meeting. In other words, it encapsulates the WDP motto “Informed Prayer. Prayerful Action.”
The letter to the Ephesians praises the community for their faith and love. The author prayed for God to give wisdom and revelation. In knowing God, they could have their eyes of the heart enlightened and know the hope they were called for.
New Heart
Millions of lost lives to the COVID-19 pandemic, long months of social isolation, protests against racial inequalities and police brutality, increased violence against women and so on have all permeated the year of 2020. We may have asked ourselves where to find God in this context of suffering. From a heart and mind full of pain and anger, we raised the prayers of lament in faith.
From this place of lament to God, the eyes of our hearts are open and we can exam the context of structured racial discrimination, gender violence, social exclusion, political polarization, poverty or environmental degradation.
We invite you to experience the meeting with a spirit of openness and acceptance, and for that, the heart must be ready: New Heart!
New Mind
We can see God working in our lives. We see God in action, and want to join in. We believe in change. We believe in miracles. We believe in resurrection.
WDP has crossed generations with prayers that build bridges and empower women and communities with life-changing gifts. From 1927 to 2027, one century had passed. What is WDP legacy to the new generations? How to let the new generations guide the movement to the next century?
We invite you to discern together the challenges of our time and make wise, visionary and courageous decisions: New Mind!
Called to Hope
Everyday there is an opportunity to put hope into action. Hope does not die.
The logo of the international meeting shows three elements: a leafy green plant, the world and the logo of our movement. The leaf of hope, which encircles WDP, springs out in a dancing movement towards a new heart and mind. This is the time to experience things with a new heart and new mind, and for visionary and courageous decisions.
Above all, we want to reaffirm that the women of World Day of Prayer are carriers and givers of hope: Called to Hope!

WDPIC Executive Committee Nominations

The Executive Committee is the responsible governing body of the movement between WDPIC Meetings. It is comprised of women and young women who have shown good leadership to WDP and volunteer to serve at the international level. The members of the Executive Committee provide a global perspective in the decision making and coordination of the worldwide ecumenical movement that is World Day of Prayer.
Your Committee may want to carefully study item III of the WDPIC Constitution to learn about the composition and responsibilities of the executive committee and of the International Committee. Among the responsibilities to be carried out at the International Meeting in 2022, is to “elect the Chairperson and members of the Executive Committee, and to appoint the Treasurer.”
What is expected of WDP members nominated to the executive committee of WDPIC? Let this question guide the committee’s reflection and prayer on the leadership needs of the worldwide movement, and the contribution those persons would bring to their roles. WDPIC counts on having women and young women responsible in accomplishing the commitments made, and being resourceful to the ecumenical movement of informed prayer and prayerful action.
Nominating the Chairperson
Except for the present chairperson, who can be in this position for just one term (2017-2022), all current regional representatives are eligible to be nominated as chairperson. However, not all of them are available. Visit our Executive Committee page to be reminded of our current members.
Any person on the ballot for Chairperson, who is not elected, may be a nominee for regional representative if she has not already served two terms.
Nominating a Representative from your Region
There are two representatives for each of the seven regions as organized in WDP. All regional representatives finish their term in 2022. Some of them already concluded the two terms allowed (2012-2022), and the regions must elect new leaders. Others are eligible to be nominated for a second term (2022-2027). Those representatives can be nominated, but the committees can also nominate new candidates from their own WDP or from a WDP in another country of the same region.
When nominating for the regional position, it is worth to note that the regional representatives constitute the pool of candidates for a future chairperson election. In that sense, it is important to nominate candidates that may be qualified for either position at the appropriate time.
We count on your dedication to WDP and your prayers over the leadership required to nurturing this worldwide movement towards a “New Heart, New Mind, Called to Hope.”

Themes & Writers for WDP Worship Services
The WDP worship service is an exercise of listening to each other and God. Each service provides the movement with an annual theme and prayers from the context of women from different countries.
Your committee is invited to contribute with suggestions of themes and writer countries for the worship service. Please, discuss that with your Committee, include the delegate(s) to the International Meeting in the conversation, WDPIC will collect all responses and submit them to the working group that will function during the International Meeting in 2022 to select the themes and writers for WDP’s next cycle. We appreciate your participation!

Writing the Annual Worship ServiceThe writing is a collaboration process within a country and the Executive Committee, facilitated by the WDPIC office. If your country has not been the focus of a WDP worship service, your committee is encouraged to apply. It takes preparation and serious commitment in time, mutual support, ecumenical effort, reliable communication, and shared knowledge and skills on a voluntary basis. Though the process is very intense, it is a blessing! To be the focus country is a unique experience in the worldwide movement, which links us together in a continuous ecumenical relationship and actions for peace and justice. The deadline to submit the application is July 1st, 2021.
Nominating Another WDP CommitteeWDP Committees that are not volunteering to write the materials are invited to offer a suggestion for a future writer country. Please make sure there is an active ecumenical WDP in the country to be nominated. You may check the Journal to learn about WDP in the country you have in mind. The deadline to submit the nomination is July 1st, 2021.
